I only became aware of the phenomenon that is the Christmas Jumper/sweater when I moved to Ireland seven years ago; the Late Late Toy show has a lot to answer for! I believe they’re a bit of a thing in the UK as well, though I’m not sure about the rest of the world.
I just had to link to this story, simply because of how bizar it is. As a holiday gag, beer brand Budweiser has set up a knitting machine that knits Christmas jumpers. It’s powered by, of all things, tweets. Tweet anything with the hash tag #jumpersfordes and the machine will knit another bit of the jumper.
The des is short for designated driver, Budweiser trying to promote responsible drinking over the Christmas holidays.
Supposedly, the garments will be handed out to designated drivers over the holiday period.
So I guess we should all get tweeting and make sure there’s plenty of hideous jumpers to go round.
I honestly don’t really know what to say about this one. Really. I don’t care that she calls it art, I just think it’s weird.
Teaching some local women to knit wasn’t part of Meredith Ramirez Talusan’s research when’s he visited the Philippines in 2011. But the women were eager to learn, improved their skills and taught others. A small business was formed that now employs 25 local women and sells their handmade products all over the world. Knitting has been truly life changing for this small community.
